Why I joined journalism and what it means to me: Since hearing about it from my sister during my eighth grade year, I have wanted to be in Stagg’s journalism program. I had read newspapers from a young age and to this day still prefer a physical copy rather than a digital one. When I was going to become a freshman at Stagg, the Journalism 1-2 class was no longer available, which was quite unfortunate. I knew that there were other ways of achieving my goal of writing for the Stagg Line, so I wasn’t too worried. Last year, I was finally able to take Graphic Design since I wasn’t able to during my freshman year. I knew that if I played my cards right, Graphic Design would open up the door to newspaper. To me, journalism is a form of self expression. A story idea is simply clay that I can sculpt with my words. Knowing that my opinions and words will be read by my fellow peers and teachers will make me feel proud. In addition, the Stagg Line is one of the best newspapers in the country and it would be pretty cool to be able to tell people that I was a part of it.
Goals on staff and after high school: At the end of the year, I would like to be able to look back and be thoroughly satisfied and proud with all of my work (graphic, photo, or story). In addition, I would also like to earn an editorship for my senior year. After high school, the only thing I’m sure of is that I want to go to college. Beyond college, I’m not too sure what I would like to do. Seeing as it’s my junior year in high school, I should probably start giving it some thought.
