For years, Marshall Mathers, better known by Eminem, has been a controversial figure in Hip Hop and his name is in headlines yet again for his performance at the iHeart Radio Awards on March 11.

In the extended version of his new song “Nowhere Fast”, Mathers opens up with comments about the NRA following the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in mid February. In this opening verse, he speaks his mind about the NRA and their role in events like the Douglas school shooting.

The first few lines make statements saying that the NRA is in our way and they are responsible for the production of school shootings and that they love their guns more than our children. This message is very powerful and I can see why there was so much controversy surrounding his lyrics after the performance.

In recent times, Eminem has made many lyrical stabs at America’s government such as his BET Music Awards freestyle where he angrily speaks about his feelings about Donald Trump.

A creative mastermind in his own right, this will surely not be the last time that we see Eminem’s name in headlines for his expressions about the state of our nation.
