Finding out that you made your high school’s varsity team is an amazing feeling and can even leave you in shock. This was the case for sophomore Sophona Khen. After playing basketball for the past eight years, Khen decided that it was time for her to join a team.

“I was amazed when I found out that I made varsity, but at the same time I wasn’t because it all comes down to hard work, and I put in a lot of hard work,” Khen said. “I’ve been playing for a long time and I thought I might as well try to make something out of it.”

Her favorite part of playing basketball is the intensity of games.

“Since I’m a point guard, the team depends on me to get the ball down the court and secure it until we’ve set up our play,” Khen said. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s all worth it once the game is over.”

Khen aims to continue playing the sport she loves and hopes to play at a collegiate level after high school.

“I don’t know what college I want to go to or play at, but wherever I end up, I hope I can play basketball there,” Khen said. “No matter where I’m at in life or what situation I’m in, I will do whatever I can to make sure I’m on the court helping my team.”

Khen looks forward to the remainder of the season and enjoying herself out on the court.
