Remembering John Lennon

Remembering John Lennon

A tragedy happened on December 8, 1980 which was the year that, singer-songwriter, John Lennon, passed away. When John Lennon died in front of his Manhattan apartment, hundreds of thousands of people gathered to grieve outside his home. With roses and candles in hand, and thier breath turning white as they lit the candles, the fans from all over the world went to visit Central Park’s Strawberry Fields. It was really crowded with fans. The Strawberry Fields was gated from 72nd Street entrance to the park opposite of Dakota.

Some of the fans sang some Beatles songs in dedication to John Lennon. The Beatles influenced many people and helped them step into a new world of love and peace. John Lennon once said, “If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliché that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that’s his problem. Love and peace are eternal.” The Beatles were people who believed that love and peace will never die out.

Iris Palomarez, senior, said “Oh my gosh, it is horrible even though I wasn’t there in the year that he passed away; it feels like he barely died this year.” We will miss John Lennon and his inspiration to the people for not giving up on peace and love.

R.I.P. John Lennon
