UPDATE 9/16/24 According to an email from Principal Brett Toliver, a teenager who is not a part of SUSD district was arrested and currently in custody, no weapons were found in their possession. When asked for further details Toliver declined further comment.
A false threat circulated around social media this Friday, causing parents to take their children out of school in large numbers. Stagg was met by dozens of parents forming a line that went out the door and circled around the front lot.
Admin and campus security monitors handled the situation by sending out information and directing parents and police on campus.
“We met with our team, we talked with our resource officer and police chief, communicating with what they found out,” said Assistant Principal Megan Torres.
At 1:05 p.m., Principal Brett Toliver sent an email confirming that the threat was a hoax. He addressed that the listing of schools was not within SUSD or San Joaquin county and were proven to be unfounded. “We care deeply about the safety of all of our students, teachers, and staff. Safety is and will continue to be top priority,” said Toliver.
A number of students were pulled out during lunch and throughout the day, including cheerleaders and football players that raised worries that tonight’s homecoming game would be canceled.
Torres confirmed that the event will proceed as scheduled. “We’re working on figuring out how to make that work, but I don’t foresee Homecoming getting canceled.”
JV cheerleader Makayla Walters was initially upset before receiving confirmation that the game will go on and they will still be cheering. “I’m excited that everyone is going to see the team.”
