Las Vegas terrorist attack
On Sunday night a 64 year-old man, Stephan Paddock left at least 58 people dead and hundreds injured in Las Vegas, Nevada. This all happened at an outdoor concert festival leaving thousands of survivors in terror. This tragedy is now being claimed as the deadliest mass shooting in American History.
He was on the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas Strip casino when he released fire on the ongoing concert. The Country star Jason Aldean was performing at the time. SWAT teams rushed to the scene after open fire began.
Investigation of Paddock’s background is being looked into. There is no evidence that the F.B.I has found that Paddock is an Islamic State solider. However, that is what Islamic State is claiming by stating the gunman, “converted Islam a few months ago.”
Paddock was found dead-from suicide along with 10 rifles in his hotel room. The reason why Paddock committed this crime is still unknown. According to his brother, he was an accountant and wasn’t having any financial problems.
This gunman, unlike others had no previous criminal history. However, his father, Benjamin Patrick Paddock had a troubled past including several bank robberies after escaping prison and becoming on F.B.I’s “Top 10” most wanted list in the ‘70’s.
President Trump has responded to this horrific event by saying, “Our unity cannot be shattered by evil, our bonds cannot be broken by violence.” He begins to then go on by condemning the shooting as an “act of pure evil”.
This catastrophic event has triggered national debate about calls for gun control. Gun control advocates have insisted that with a Republican-controlled congress considering to loosen federal gun laws that latest debates shouldn’t mirror ones after previous mass shootings.
