Behind the Music

What’s your music of choice? Every Friday at lunch music is played at Stagg High School; you’ll notice some students are rocking to the beat as others sit with annoyance. The ones that like the music think its fine but some students find it repetitive.

Junior Cj Clark says that the music played at lunch is fine because it’s the type of music I listen to. I feel the music helps lunch go by and make it more exciting than just a typical day.” As this is one side of the coin, there is always a flip side.

Jazmyne Quinones, sophomore, voices, “I feel that at lunch, the music is kind of segregating. It separates us students in a way because those who like the music will stick around and listen, as us students who prefer a different genre, kind of walk off and find another place to sit, stand or hang.”

So the question comes, is the lunch time playlist and genre of music able to change?

Student activities commissioner of technology Mariah Marchbanks, senior, and her assitant commissior Alexander Rebultan, freshman, announced that, “We may be in charge of the music but we aren’t the ones who pick the songs. A variety of students make a list, and then we go and approve the music. We got complaints that the music is repetitive, but we are only playing what the students are asking for.”

Though the music stays the same, changes are able to be made for those who dislike the music that continues to be played. To change the list put in a request and switch up the beat, make new a rhythm and move your feet!
