This is Season 1, Episode 9 of Student Spotlight.
#1 – What does receiving this award from the city mean to you both as an athlete and as a student.
J – First, as an athlete I feel like it kind of gives me the recognition I believe I deserve because I did win it. I did feel like a huge sense of accomplishment for playing for four years and as a student I feel like it shows that you’re able to both balance sports and academics. I was able to balance sports and academics at such a high level.
#2 – Can you talk about a moment this season that challenged you the most and how you pushed through it?
J – I’d say probably at the beginning of the season when I rolled my ankle mid-game. In the moment during the game I thought I was done for the season. I was scared, but then through the next five weeks, I just kept playing on it because I didn’t want my senior season to end so quick, and even just little bumps and bruises here and there. What mainly kept me going even though it was painful, I think it was just the idea of winning this season, of just doing better than last season, setting a new standard for these next couple classes to come to stagg.
#3 – How have your coaches, teammates, or family influence your growth as an offensive lineman?
J – There’s a lot of coaches I could thank and I wish to thank but to keep it broad in general, all my coaches. They all played a part even if I would just went to a trainer for a day, or see a trainer for a day. I feel like everybody coaching-wise and player-wise, they all helped influence me, they all help me to keep pushing. And for my family, they were always there to motivate me. I feel like just throughout my high school career that there was always support, and for friends, I mean, they supported me as well the same way my parents did.
#4 – Now that you’ve earned this recognition, what goals or plans do you have moving forward, whether in sports, school, or beyond?
J – Now that I have this recognition, I feel like I could finally close this chapter in my life. Growing up, I always looked forward to playing high school football, and now that it’s finally all over, I believe I’m able to move on and pursue my career into becoming an electrician going to trade school.
“To any athletes that feel like you’re struggling, there’s always somebody to talk to whether it be your coaches, your teammates, friends, or family. You’re never alone in the struggle if you’re having an off day or even if you’re having an off week, someone’s always there to help you.” – Jorge Jimenez, 12/2/2025
