This is Season 1, Episode 8 of Student Spotlight.
#1 – What kind of responsibilities does a drum major have?
F – You’re really just leading the band, that’s really it. You really just lead the band and tell them what to do, basically.
#2 – What is it like performing?
F – It’s really cool, you know, I get kind of nervous, but not like that because I play football too, so it’s cool, nothing crazy, yeah, I like it.
#3 – How do you think you did during the competition?
F – I think I did good, actually. I mean, I feel like we should’ve got first, but we didn’t. We must have did something wrong, but I think I did good.
#4 – How did you do as a whole band?
F – I think we got second place as a whole, but drum majors just got third place, so like I said, we should’ve done better but it’s alright.
#5 – How would you describe it to someone who wants to join?
F – It’s fun. It’s a lot of things you could do in there, you know, they go on a lot of trips and stuff, you know, we’re going to LA in a month or something, for a competition. We go to Universal Studios, Disneyland, stuff like that.
#6 – As a leader, what were your main concerns for the team?
F – To make sure they were doing everything right and make sure they came to all the practices because we don’t have that many practices.
#7 – What were the steps you had to take to make your team successful?
F – Just making sure they know their music. because some people don’t know their music and they’ll be playing anything when we’re performing. They’ll know it, just not some parts, so basically just make sure they know everything.
#8 – What obstacles might arise in the moment and how would you resolve them?
F – For example, say I have a certain amount of steps to take and something interferes with it, then usually I’ll just get around it and keep going or just take a couple more steps basically.
#9 – What kind of mindset should you adopt with becoming a leader?
F – Having confidence and being vocal.
