Students come up to the stage with whiteboards and markers in hand, ready to participate and learn about black culture. "Learning about black culture and getting into BSU is fun, and why I joined," said Small.
On Friday, February 27, Stagg High School held its annual Black Student Union (BSU) assembly in the theater. It took place during 3rd and 4th period and showcased black excellence and culture. BSU organized it as a way to dismantle certain stereotypes about black people and highlight the influence and great contributions that black people have had in the world.
“People may think that black culture is just people being ghetto and being in gangs and other negative stereotypes. But when you really look at it, black history is so much more,” said Senior Josiah Small.
