MARISSA PIMENTEL: Brother ignites soccer passion

Playing soccer again after quitting when she was 11 was not part of her plans. Marissa Pimentel, freshman, played for 5 years before deciding to not play next season due to her dedication to the game dying down.

However, when she came into high school, she wanted to try out once again after seeing her brother play the year before. Pimentel’s brother, Mario Pimentel, was a senior the last school year and played on the boy’s varsity team. Watching him play brought back the passion she once had for the sport and made her want to give it a second chance.

“Seeing him play made me want to play again, it made me miss it,” Pimentel said.

Playing soccer brings Pimentel back to her childhood, where her and her brother would play in the same league but not on the same team. They would be there and give help to each other during games, despite playing on different sides.

“He always pushed me and was always supportive.”

Though the girl’s team didn’t do the best this season in her opinion, she feels that the last few games really showed how much they improved. Pimentel has high hopes for next season and is glad that she once again decided to do the sport.
