Softball is a sport that requires not only athleticism, but also mental toughness. The Delta Queens have consistently shown these attributes as they have ranked top 3 in the league for the last 5 years. Here’s how the players feel about the team, coaches, and the upcoming season.

Pitcher and First Basemen Juliana Matsumoto has a good feeling about this season regarding team spirit. “I think it’s very competitive, and everybody has high spirits, so it’s a lot of energy running around.”
Many factors impact the team, but to player Keana LeBeau the coaches play a big part, “Honestly, it’s the coaches, they’re really nice and very helpful to our team.”

Many players in softball can play most positions, but some players have preferences. “My favorite position to play would be somewhere in the infield, like second or third base, where most of the action is,” said outfield player Urbistando.
Practicing for softball can be hard due to its positionless nature. Players tend to have certain habits they follow to prepare for games, some more than others. “I go to the park with my friends and play catch or hit it off a tee to practice,” said LeBeau.
Araceli Lupian said, “I work on my hitting a lot because I want to be a better hitter to get more power through my swing.”
More than just a game, softball is a supportive environment built on encouragement. The team, especially the coaches, are described as “very encouraging,” said Araceli.

Sports players all have different motivations. “I started my sophomore year, and one of my senior friends encouraged me to play softball,” said Lupian.
In addition to that, some players also get inspired and encouraged by the people around them. “My inspiration was my dad and uncles because I grew up watching them play, and I wanted to make them proud,” said Alexis Urbistando.
