Jasmine Pharms receives positive recognition from her coach, Juan Martinez, after she makes a block during a tournament at Lincoln.

Jasmine Pharms played football for five years. She won Most Valuable Player and Ironman, for hardest hitter. In eighth grade she stopped because she wanted to try a new sport.

“I honestly didn’t think I could get a scholarship in football.”

Now a sophomore, Pharms plays on the varsity volleyball team. She’s been playing volleyball since her freshman year and says that she gets along with everyone on all three levels –  freshman, junior varsity, and varsity.

“I’m challenging myself, playing with juniors and seniors, to become better.” She likes the challenge and knows that it will only make her a better player.

“I love it, I just love sports in general. Even when the team loses, or wins, I know we tried our best and I know I did my best and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.”

She is also on track and field and basketball.

”It’s kind of hard keeping track of all the equipment, to not forget it,” Pharms said.

Something she finds challenging to tackle off the court is keeping her grades up.

She said that during her freshman year it was easier to keep up with the work because the classes were easier, but now that she is taking on honors classes, she finds it a bit more difficult. However, Pharms is working hard to stay on top of everything.
