Girls soccer raises over $1,000 for breast cancer

Senior Stephanie Silva traps a ball before clearing it.

The first annual Stagg Breast Cancer Tournament took place on March 8 and 9. All entrance fees for spectators were donated to the St. Joseph’s Cancer Center as well as a dollor from each shirt sale and the profit from the snack bar. To show their support both the varsity and JV girls soccer teams sported pink uniforms and started each game with a pink breast cancer ball. The JV team lost all three games they played – losing to Del Campo, Downey, and Placer. The varsity team lost to Del Campo 3-0 and tied Downey 0-0 on Friday. And on Saturday they beat Placer 2-0 with goals from junior Claudette Caceres and sophomore Maria Cruz. Both the JV and varsity Del Campo teams placed first in the tournament.
