Crocs: the new trend

Making their debut back in 2002 the rubber clogs, Crocs, are making a comeback in the fashion industry. From “ugly” to “the most comfortable shoe ever” the brand is getting mixed reviews from customers. For most people it is either you love them or you hate them, there’s no inbetween.

For years this brand has been around but why is it the hottest shoe out currently? For most it’s because everyone has them then, for many it’s because of how convenient they are. The rubber material makes them easy to clean and perfect for any type of weather. There is no hassle of putting the shoe on or taking it off, since they are slip-ons. Then there is the idea of being “diverse” when wearing a pair of Crocs.

Coming in many bright colors with a variety of accessories, the shoe can give one a sense of confidence. Before they became “cool” they were “embarrassing” and one wouldn’t wear them unless you were a toddler or over the age of 40. Now, they are viewed as a bold fashion statement, wearing them will make you a trendsetter.

But how long before this trend dies out like chokers and fake prescription glasses?

Most people claim they wear Crocs because they are so terribly comfortable but are they actually good for your feet? Podiatrists claim that these rubber sandals are rather the opposite. While they give good “arch support.” Dr. Megan Leahy, a Chicago-based podiatrist with the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, says they shouldn’t be worn for long periods of time because they do not properly “secure the heel.” The lack of security can lead to tendonitis, nail problems, corns and calluses.

Just like every fad, it will have its spotlight, criticism, praise but it will soon be a mere memory.
