LIZZETE RAMOS: Perks of being a cross country runner

The sweat drips down step after step, her face starts to feel as if it’s melting, the long runs there and the tiring ones back, but yet nothing can stop junior Lizzete Ramos.

Being a wrestler is one thing, but being dragged into a sport you don’t have much experience with is another. Doing wrestling her freshman year Ramos felt since then that she would go far with it, and soon enough it started to build her confidence.

“I feel like I actually found something I’m good at,” Ramos said. “Before I even knew wrestling existed I wasn’t as confident as I am now that I’m doing it.”

Jonathan Avina, Ramos wrestling coach who is now her cross country coach encouraged Ramos to come out for the cross country season to better herself for wrestling. Although she had little running experience her coach’s faith in her really pushed her into doing it.

“Maybe it’s the way he believes in me and how much effort and time they put into training me that keeps me going.” Ramos said.

Ramos tends to take her practices very seriously, hence the fact that she puts more time and effort into practices rather than hanging with friends. Knowing “practice makes perfect,” she tends to try ten times as harder during the cross country season. Ramos has her mindset on the “don’t stop mode,” rather than thinking about how tired she actually is when it comes to her practices.

“If I can run three and a half miles plus everyday and not stop, then why give up during a wrestling match,” Ramos said.
