It took less than an hour for the news to travel to the superintendent.

“They could be kicked off the team, possible expulsion, it could be nothing for some, ” Principal Andre Phillips said.

Mr. Phillips, the radio echoes, Lincoln is calling again. He sprints into action.

Six players on the football team wait for the verdict to come after an incident with Lincoln players after school Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Their parents sit in a row in the counselors’ hallway. As the players look somber, regretful, their parents mirror their emotions. Both groups are anxious to find out what comes next.

One mother sits five seats away from her son, her eyes red and glossy. Now, they wait.

Phillips has confirmed that the incident happened yesterday on the Lincoln campus between the end of the school day and 3:00 p.m.

Someone reported that one of the Stagg players had a gun, Phillips said. It was unknown at the time that the “air-pressure pistol” was not a real gun. “They didn’t pull it out and point it at anyone,” Phillips said. “The guy just kind of showed it like,” he motioned his hand upward at his waist.

The players stated that they went to Lincoln to pick a friend up for pizza, Phillips said. Since Lincoln High was still in session, the student(s) they intended to pick up remained in school.

The players drove off but were pulled over shortly after. Their parents had to pick them up from the scene.

“Had there not been a ‘gun’,” Phillips said, “none of this would have happened.” None of the players will be in uniform at this Friday’s game, Aug. 29. Other disciplinary action will be announced.

“There will be a definite decision by the end of today,” Phillips said.

All six of the players have been released from the football team for the remainder of the season.

“This has nothing to do with next year or any other sport,” Phillips said.
