What started as a favor to her brother has resulted in a small business that has sold over 60 bouquets just this year.
As a senior in highschool, Kassandra Ramirez has handled school, CTE, and her own business. Ramirez takes advanced classes like AP Literature and Ag Leadership, acts as the Reporter on the FFA Officer team, and also handles her own floral business.
Ramirez started making bouquets for her brother as a gift to him a year ago for his girlfriend. “I just like started it just for fun,” she said. “But I didn’t really think I was gonna take it to a whole business, but it started to grow.”
She gets her customers through social media, such as Instagram where she has over 170 followers, posters, and shout outs. Ramirez makes sure she puts her business out there however she can. “If you’re able to work good with social media it helps you manage your business with organization and social media posts which helps you get your business out there more.”
Ramirez gets her orders done after school. “I balance out school and my floral business by making sure all my class work is done.” She sells bouquets for many different occasions like Valentines day, National boyfriend and girlfriends day, birthdays, anniversaries and many others.
Not only is Ramirez happy with the work she puts out but so are her buyers. In the early days of her business, one of her first customers, senior Delliah Raley expressed shock when she found out about her friend’s business, “I’ve been good friends with Kassandra since freshman year so when she told me about her floral business I was like ´Oh!’”
Raley had purchased a flat bouquet which is like a regular bouquet but laid flat instead of the traditional round bouquet and was very happy with the final product she got.
Since it was one of her first orders, Ramirez said it was awesome practice. Her advice with starting a new business is to not be afraid of taking chances. ¨You’re gonna start from the bottom and it’s gonna take time, it’s going to take practice.¨
While business is slow currently, sheś expecting it to get busier during Motherś Day and Valentineś Day. Ramirez last piece of advice is to “stay organized at all times, because organization is key when running a small business, and work hard for your dreams.¨
