Senior Tylor Cornwell stands with football coach Don Norton after signing his letter of intent to going to Sterling University on April 3.

Senior Tylor Cornwell had never played sports before high school and didn’t really consider participating. His freshman year, his friends persuaded him into trying football. At first, he wasn’t exactly excited to join, but soon he found the rush of adrenaline that pushed him to continue.

Cornwell, as a freshman, went to Cesar Chavez High School and placed football before academics. Once he transferred to Stagg, he realized that his classes were just as important.

While playing for Stagg, this 6’4,’’ 340 lbs senior played eight out of 10 games as a right guard.

Sports scholarships are rare, but Cornwell accomplished a feat that most high school athletes can only dream of. In February, Cornwell had taken a step closer to launching his career path. He had received a one-year scholarship to Sterling University in Kansas.

While he will be moving away from his family,  he’s “excited to move and get the chance to experience new thing and places,” said Cornwell, “but, luckily, I will also have teammates there with me.”
