After almost a decade, another Kung Fu panda movie has been released! After the third movie being seen as a¨ serious step down from the past two¨ according to some. Kung Fu Panda is hoping to make a comeback with a 4th movie.

After eight years, Kung Fu Panda 4 has finally been released, due to popular demand  Kung Fu Panda 4 is a comedy/adventure family movie and it was released on March 8,2024. Kung Fu Panda 4 was directed by Mike Mitchell and Co-directed by Stephanie Ma Stine and was released by DreamWorks Animations.

Kung Fu Panda 4 is about Po (voiced by Jack Black) having to find a successor to be the next Dragon warrior. He ends up finding a fox named Zhen (voiced by Awkwafina) who ends up being the next Dragon warrior. The villain of this movie is the chameleon named Cameleonul (voiced by Viola Davis) that can shapeshift.

In the movie, Po and Zhen are traveling to Juniper City. Juniper City is completely different from the Valley of Peace and realizes how different peoples lives are from his.

While in Juniper City Po sees how different life is outside of the Valley of Peace. He sees how fast it is and how people live. Po also finds out how Zhen started stealing stuff and how she grew up. Zhen ends up taking Po to the Chameleon´s castle and we find out that Zhen is actually working for Cameleonul.

I honestly didn’t like this movie at all. I thought it was repetitive and boring. A lot of the scenes in the movie felt meaningless and the majority of the scenes seemed reused. The movie had a good amount of conflict but most of it was pushed to the side and forgotten about. Most of the dialog between Po and Zhen felt forced and it was kind of boring.  I feel as if there was no reason to make another Kung Fu Panda movie after how bad the last one was. Like the original directors were not even involved in the making of this movie.

For me, the only things I really liked in this movie was the architecture and the chemistry between Po´s dads. I loved the style of the buildings and the way the chameleon´s castle was built. The way the houses were built elegantly but yet still simple. The majority of the buildings have hints of red and resemble traditional Chinese houses, but a little modern.  I feel as if the only thing in the movie that the animators really cared about was the scenery and the effects, not the story line.

As for the chemistry between Po´s dad´s Mr. Ping (voiced by James Hong) and Mr. Li (voiced by Bryan Cranston), I really loved their little bickering and the back and forth between them. When I watched the movie I could kind of feel the love that they had for Po and how much they love him.

One thing I really disliked about this movie is the fact that The Furious Five were not in the movie until the end. Kung Fu Panda 1,2, and 3 were all about The Furious Five and Po. I understand that this movie is about Po finding a successor but The Furious Five could have added a lot to the movie.

Another thing I didn’t like about this movie was the voice of Zhen. I have nothing against Awkwafina but her voice is just very annoying to me. I know that some people have problems with the way she talks but that doesn’t really bother me. I just find her voice extremely annoying.

In all honesty, this movie had so much potential for an amazing storyline but instead the storyline was very bland. As I watched the movie I kept on getting confused and not understanding certain stuff. At times the moving was slow and boring and then when there would be an action packed scene it would be super fast and confusing.

For example, Zombieland had an amazing first movie and an amazing second movie. Like it would’ve been fine if there wasn’t a second movie, but the second movie did add on to the storyline of Zombieland. It also gave us a happy ending and filled in some questions for the viewers, instead of leaving us on a cliffhanger and leaving us wanting more. Kung Fu Panda 4 has some people wanting to see how Zhen would be like as the Dragon warrior.

Overall I’d say Kung Fu Panda 4 was a bust. I feel like it was very overhyped. I understand why it was hyped so much though. It has been 8 years since a Kung Fu Panda movie. However the media and people in general overhyped it so much. I’d say Kung Fu Panda 4 was a 4/10 for me.
