Skate Club President Nicholas Johnson speaks on his experience as the president and his future plans not just for himself as president, but as well as for the entire club.
This is Season 1, Episode 4 of Student Spotlight.
#1 – What had led or inspired you to become the president of skate club?
J – What inspired me to be the president of skate club is that I have a lot of experience in skating. I’ve been skating for a year. I’d say my progress has been pretty good though and that being able to teach other students could help out skate club.
#2 – What are some plans you have set for the future of this club.
J – Some plans I have set for the future of this club is to get our seniors onto a skate park, hopefully not in Stockton but that’s my plan, my main goal for skate club.
#3 – What is the importance of getting them onto a skate park?
J – Honestly, it’s just something we’ve been trying to plan for a while now and we couldn’t get through for a couple years. I think that’s something that will make our seniors happy since they haven’t gone on a field trip for a couple years. I would be happy to bring that and give that to our seniors.
#4 – How do you manage your duties as the president?
J – I manage the duties as president by being there. Me and Mr. Simpson, our administrator give little lessons to the beginners. I would like to try and have meetings, but for big events that’s going on we usually have meetings planned.
#5 – Plans for next year, will you continue being president or not?
J – If I’m still skating, yes, of course, but if someone was trying to take the throne from me, I wouldn’t mind. If they have good goals and good aspects about skateboarding and actually feel fulfilled about doing the duty, I definitely allow.
#6 – Any words for anyone that may be going through something similar, like skating or becoming president of a club?
J – Don’t be scared to talk to people. That’s definitely an issue that I think a lot of people in general and not just presidents in specific have. Being able to have your voice out loud and be able to talk about issues or solutions in general, I think you should definitely speak out your voice no matter who you are, president or not.
