This is Season 1, Episode 6 of Student Spotlight.
#1 – What year did you join Key Club?
V – I joined last year, so I would say I’m on the newer side but I joined my sophomore year, and I was just a regular member and I decided to go for President.
#2 – Can you explain what FRN is and what it means to Key Club?
V – FRN stands for Fall Rally North and it’s one of the biggest annual events that Key Club holds. The event is just a huge opportunity for us to fundraise for multiple programs and charities that Key Club sponsors, for example, PTP, which is a Pediatric Trauma Program, and we raise a lot of money from that.
#3 – What are some challenges you face as a president when organizing for an important event like FRN and how did you handle that?
V – Definitely just like making sure to keep track of all the deadlines and stuff and making sure that I get in the paperwork on time for it, as well as just working out the minor details that no one really thinks about. For example, how it is we’re going to get there, how it is we’re going to pay to get there, how it is we’re going to fundraise in order to get that money to get there, if that makes sense. And a way I overcame this was definitely by relying a lot on my officers and realizing that I’m not the only person who’s in the club and who’s supposed to be running it. I could lean on others and that’s okay. FRN was such a big goal for Key Club.
#4 – What are the next plans or big things for Key Club?
V – Right now I’m currently in the process of trying to start a builders club at Cleveland. It’s just one of the multiple pathways to expose middle school students to good clubs like Key Club when they go to high school.
#5 – How was FRN? Were you excited to attend?
V – FRN was good, I’d say. I was definitely very excited to attend and just to see all like the hard work that I spent trying to get us there, like, just seeing it in action was really cool.
#6 – What was your favorite part about the trip?
V – Definitely riding the Medusa. We got there pretty, not pretty early, but we got there early enough to go on a ride and I went on the Medusa for the first time.
