From baking at home to hopefully owning a bakery, Aubrey Sovuth makes Dubai chocolate bars to sell around Stockton as side hustle that could grow into something larger.
This is Season 1, Episode 3 of Student Spotlight.
#1 – What got you selling Dubai Chocolates in the first place?
S – For me, I saw that a lot of people have been requesting for it on the internet, because it’s hard to make it. You need to get a certain chocolate and pistachio and make it into a spread. So I wanted to try making it for myself to see if it tastes good if I try to make it.
#2 – Is there a story behind why you chose chocolates and not something else?
S – Well with chocolate, I say it’s fun, you can do anything with chocolate, it’s versatile. You can make cake pops, you can make chocolate bars, you can make several things with chocolate, but chocolate bars are delicious. It is also holdable. You can just hold it, take it to go. I can take it to school and just eat it there.
#3 – Do you see this more of a side hustle or something you’re really passionate about?
S – I think this is more of a side hustle for me, cause baking is really interesting to me too, but it’s not something I would pursue.
#4 – Do you see yourself continuing this or maybe turning it into something bigger later on?
S – Maybe I’ll continue here and there, but if I could, I would like to make it bigger, if I had the resources and the money.
#5 – If you weren’t selling chocolates, what do you think you would try to sell?
S – If I wasn’t selling chocolates, I would like to have a drink business. Maybe it’s stereotypical, but I would like to sell boba and matcha lattes, but because I think you can spread your own culture through making drinks, and it would be nice to show it off to write up to other people because some people would like to get a drink before they go to work or they just want something to cheer them up. So it would be nice to spread that through drinks, it’s something you can eat.
#6 – And the last question is, what advice would you give to other students who want to start selling something?
S – I say you need the confidence and patience. I feel like if you do want to sell something, make sure that you know what you’re talking about and you know how to make it better, and taking feedback is really important as well, because it helps you improve your business and improves how you process things as well.
