New schedule is proposed for next year
Creating a new schedule is like using a one-size-fits-all shirt, there is no perfect fit. The shirt is bound to be too big or too small on someone. Similarly, the new schedule does not fit perfectly for both the staff and students. There are students who take honors and Advanced Placement classes, which requires them to spend a couple hours a night doing homework. For them, having a block schedule works well because it allows them extra time to finish homework. But for the students who just want to get their A-G requirements, sitting in a two hour class sometimes results in them not having enough work to get done.
Then looking at it from a teaching perspective, depending on the subject being taught, the class doesn’t always need two hours to finish the lesson plans the teacher has prepared. For example, an art teacher might find themselves scrambling for more projects to fill the leftover time at the end of the period or may let the students do whatever they want for the remaining time.
Out of all the proposed schedules, the chosen one contains three 1-6 days and two block period days. The alternative to that would be to return to the 1-6 schedule everyday. Staff will vote on the new schedule and the one with two thirds of the votes will win.
The schedule committee chair John Steiner said, “it will be a pain, but we will adjust.”
