Since last year, the school library– known as “The Spot,”–has been under renovation.
What was once a space mainly used by students for Chromebook help and tech-related needs has now been transformed into a proper library. The renovations that took place all of last year are finished, and the new library features a refreshed design, an updated selection of books, and a librarian who is excited at the possibilities that new books bring.

The Library Media Assistant, Ms. Evelyn
Evelyn Romero, the new library media assistant, has been working here for only a month, and as an alumni of our school, she says she feels more connected to the school environment. Romero mentioned that from the time she last attended our school 6 years ago, Stagg hasn’t had a library.
Romero enjoys science fiction books and believes that libraries play an important role in giving people access to information. “I think they’re really good resources,” she said. Beyond the library being strictly for books and reading, Romero plans to host activities at lunch time, and she is currently doing a candy-guessing game for the month of October. Romero plans to order even more books for the library, and is also taking book suggestions that the students can fill in.
Students and the New Library Feedback

Since the library’s renovations, several classes have already taken visits to see the new space and check out the books. During these visits, students explored the redesigned format, the new study areas, and the new collection of books, such as novels, sports nonfiction, and even comic books. The library also features a selection of Spanish-language books, including both original titles and translated versions of popular novels like “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” by Jeff Kinney.

Mariah Rodriguez (10), said she enjoys the new atmosphere. “I feel like it gives a more comfortable vibe,” she said. She also appreciated the inclusion of Spanish titles. “I like how they included a lot of books, especially the ones in Spanish.” Rodriguez mentioned she’ll “definitely” be visiting again, after this new renovation.
So far, the new library has been well-received by the students. “It’s pretty cool. It’s better than the last one,” said Mariah Rosco (11) who also added that she plans to visit again soon.
With its updated shelves, new book selections, and an alumni running it, the library feels like it’s becoming a comfortable place for students again. As Ms. Evelyn said, “I feel like you can’t get the same thing from a phone to a book.” The library is open for the remainder of the school year, at lunch and during the day if your teacher makes a visit. If you want to check out a book, participate in an activity, or just hang out, check out the new library.
