ROBERTO TORRES: Player runs to another base

It started with his dad, passed to his mom and his older sister. Now it’s his turn to take over the field. To his family, baseball isn’t only a sport.

Sophomore Roberto Torres began to play baseball at an early age. “I been playing baseball since I was five years old because of my dad,” Torres said.

As an eighth grader, Torres was planning to play baseball during his high school years but he ended up attending a charter school.

As a freshman, he was enrolled in Langston Hughes Charter School which prevented him from playing baseball for another high school. Torres was told he “Couldn’t play for Stagg because of the school he was attending.”

“I thought of staying in Langston Hughes but I felt that moving to Stagg was a better idea.” Torres says it is better to associate with his teammates in school and on the field as well.

Torres says that moving to Stagg was the best decision. It has helped him to make more friends and get to know his teammates better.
