MALIA CHRISTIANO: Swim inspires water polo
After junior Malia Christiano’s first year of swim, she was recommended by her coach to play water polo.
“I really like swim so when my coach recommended water polo I decided I would give it a try.”
Christiano is glad that she went ahead and tried out the sport. She claims it has made her more athletic. “I have gained so much positive things from water polo that have helped me be a better person.”
Before she was familiar with the game, she looked at it less than it is. She said, “It gets really intense when you have to hold yourself up in the water as you play.”
As a student athlete, Christiano stresses that being dedicated to school as much as her sports is very important. “I make sure to make time for my homework and studying.” She added that staying focused has come easier to her since water polo takes a lot of concentration.
Since, Christiano has become a faster swimmer and gained better hand eye coordination. She looks forward to the upcoming swim season later this year. “All the stuff I’ve learned in water polo has made me a way better swimmer.”
“I have had so much fun this season and I plan on continuing water polo next year.”
