KAYLEE FETTERS: Serving up another win

Playing tennis in the hot burning sun may not be appealing to many people, but the desire to play and improve is enough to keep Kaylee Fetters, a freshman, going.

It’s not always easy to be confident in an unknown and new sport. Fetters first started playing tennis 2 years ago at Oak Park.

Feeling confident when starting a new sport is never easy, and it was difficult for Fetters because she felt embarrassment. None the less she looked past that feeling and found enjoyment in the sport.

“When I play tennis, I forget everything and just have fun playing with opponents and friends.”

She joined the girl’s tennis team her freshman year and started the season out playing #6 singles. She has intentions of winning and is willing to put in the work to get there.

The tennis team only practices for 3 hours, but there’s always room for improvement and Fetters intends to go the extra mile.

“To get better I plan to practice half an hour before and after practice.”

Fetters puts her work to the test when she goes against her opponents, and aims for victory. However, no one is exempt from losing a match and Fetters is no exemption. She has experience in both winning and losing her games, having already played against Tokay and Franklin. She doesn’t let her losses, or embarrassment get to her, and instead draws strength from it, to push herself forward.

“When I win it feels amazing.”
