JAZMIN BARBOSA: Breaking out of shell through sports
Senior Guadalupe Barbosa is no typical sportswoman. She views them as a way to help break out of her shell.
“Going out for basketball and tennis and all the other sports that I did was a challenge for me,” Barbosa said. “But at the same time I want to overcome my fear.”
Barbosa was bullied throughout school, and developed an aversion to her peers as a result. Doing basketball, tennis, and softball allowed her to break her pattern of avoidant behavior.
“They have helped tremendously,” Barbosa said. “I’m trying not to stay antisocial. I’m actually trying to go out and break my shell more than it is already.”
