Beginning her track and field career her freshman year, junior Janelle Pharms has high expectations this season.

“I personally like throwing a lot better,” she said. “My sister used to do it.”

Pharms competes in the shot put and discus events. “It’s a lot a fun and way less running.”

Though she was inspired by her older sister Pharms wanted to pave her own path. Setting herself up for success, Pharms put in the extra work others aren’t willing to do.

“I practice everyday during the week, Monday through Friday, no days off.”

Coming a long way from her freshman year Pharms is looking to be in Elk Grove competing come May.

“I’m going to try to make it to Sections and then move on to State, I see myself having a really good season.”
