James Green: Three sports, one passion
Junior prepares for football season year round through playing other sports
In the fall, it’s football. In the winter, it’s basketball. Now this season it’s track.
When it comes to sports, junior James Green is driven more than anything, motivating himself as much as he can.
Track is one of the three main sports Green plays and for him it is “something that keeps (him) in shape for football.”
Green does shotput, the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash. This is his second year doing track and plans on continuing next year.
Along with track Green plays basketball and football, but his main focus is football. He treats other sports as training and muscle building while remaining competitive to drive him to do good during the off season.
“Track builds up my stamina and really prepares me for football.” Green said. “Football involves running like track, just without the pads.”
Although Green is very athletic and competitive, he doesn’t consider himself a jock. He is not gifted like other athletes in all the sports he does. He considers his drive to be better his gift.
“I’m not a regular athlete,” Green said. “I sort of go with the flow like a leaf in the wind.”
One of Green’s lifetime goals is to go pro and become a professional football player. His dream team is the San Diego Chargers. In his junior year he has been contacted by at least four colleges. His back up plan is to become a physical trainer and develop athletes.
Green says he fell in love with sports when he came into high school.
“My friends went to different schools and I wanted to compete with them,” Green said. “I started out skating then eventually transitioned to basketball, which got me in shape.”
In his sophomore and junior years Green received both “honorable mention” and “most inspirational” in football. Although Green seems to be at both his physical and intellectual peak he manages to remain humble reminding himself that he’s “not there yet.”
Green’s competitive spirit and drive are the things that allow him to continue pushing himself for the sports he does, and his drive are also the things that push him to keep going to achieve his dream.
