“Invincible” is a show based on a comic series created by Robert Kirkman. Kirkman is a famous comic book writer known for his work such as “Invincible” and “The Walking Dead”. On March 25, 2021, the first season of “Invincible” came out on Amazon Prime and got amazing reviews. It currently has an 8.7/10 on IMDB and a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The cast consists of Steven Yeun,(Mark Grayson/Invincibel), J.K Simmons(ommni Man/Nolan Grayson), Sandra Oh(Debbie Grayson), Gillian Facobs(Samantha eve wilkins), Andrew Rannels(william clockwell), Zazie Bennett(Amber bennett), Walton Goggins(cecil stedman) and Seth Rogen(Allen the alien) and so many more.
Fans were waiting for the second season for over 2 years. When fans almost lost hope, a teaser trailer was released in Jan, on the official Prime Video YouTube channel.
In it it explains it will come out late 2023.
Then on July 21, an official trailer was released and said that the first episode of season 2 would come out on Nov 3rd. the animation in it was stunning and explained that the season would be split into 2 parts. An episode would come out every Friday for 4 weeks, and 4 more after a break in early 2024.
“Invincible” is a show about a world of superheroes. While most may think it similar to Marvel or DC comics, “Invincible” is an original idea made where the superheroes would have to be more realistic. If the heroes don’t save enough people, they will be punished by losing there job and feeling the over all guilt. It is a high action show that keeps fans waiting for the next episode. It’s intense for an animated show.
The animation is stunning. It is slick and smooth. There seems to be no animation errors. The colors are very vibrant and seem to be much cleaner being freshly animated. There are so many things going on at once with the action, emotions, the charters development and we are able to see all of it through the animation.
In season one we meet seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson who is just like every guy his age, except that his father is Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on the planet. As Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems. They are an alien species called “Viltrumites”. Which are similar to humans but have superior speed, strength, durability, reflexes and can fly. They also live for thousands of years.
The first season left us on a cliffhanger with Omni-Man leaves for outer space after a failed conquest of earth after a battle with his son. His realization that he almost killed his son for his job made him realize he is the one in the wrong. I was happy to see this because Omni-Man showed he is not like the rest of the Viltrumites, his love for his son keeps him from doing the rest of the bad things his race is indoctrinated to do. At one point he ask his son what he will have in 500 years and mark replies “you dad, ill still have you” showing he still loves his Father.
In season 2, the first half seems to focus on setting up later episodes. It introduces more characters and threats that can be a major problem. Season 1 did this well with us believing he was bad, but season 2 knows how to do it right off the bat and got straight to the point with new and slick voice acting, animations and opportunities moving forward with new new characters and points of views.
The focus of the show isn’t only on Mark this season, which is nice because there are so many characters where we want more information about. There is a whole half an episode where it focuses on Allen the Alien which is unique building character development, where we see a coalition of planets against Viltrumites.
In this first half of season two, we are introduced to two big enemies that can end up bad if not taken care of correctly. The first is Angstrom Levi, a villain who can travel to different dimensions. I liked his power because Levi comes from a world where Mark joined his father to conquer earth. After an accident where he attempts to get more knowledge, it fails, leaving him deformed and wanting to kill Invincible, thus creating an arch enemy.
The second is the Viltrumite empire. In episode four, Mark finds his father Nolan, who used to go by Omni-Man, on another planet. This shows where he went after leaving earth. I like how it makes it very traumatic in a sense giving more of emotion for the character seeing him being lonely and contemplating life.
On this planet, Nolan has a new family and other responsibilities. Mark thinks he has moved forward but his father explains he is hiding here. He is expecting Viltrumite soldiers hunting him any day and wants Mark’s help. It shows after almost killing his son, he still cares for him and asks for his apology. This is big because other Viltrumites are relentless and aggressive to everyone. But Nolan’s mentality has changed.
The show knows how to pull the audience’s attention. I believe it is the best animated show for not being shy to show the audience the reality of being a superhero. I hope to see more of the show soon and I would like to rate this show a 10/10. I give it a perfect rating and believe it was worth more than the wait and moving forward the show will get even more popular.
The show is currently on break, but is doing very well. It is rumored the show will have 7-8 seasons and if that’s so, the show will be big world wide.
