¨Red One¨ is a movie starring Dwayne Johnson as Callum Drift, an E.L.F. who works at the North Pole as Santa’s bodyguard and Chris Evans as Jack O’Malley, a professional investigator who is hired to find Santa after he is kidnapped. ¨Red One¨ is a fun holiday action/comedy movie available to watch in theaters now and Amazon Prime.

This movie is about an E.L.F (Extremely Large and Formidable) named Callum going on a mission after Santa, also known as Red One, is kidnapped from the North Pole, so everyone’s Christmas is in his hands. 

The graphics

The films graphics are pretty impressive and fun, the action scenes usually have intense CGI that I loved because they were able to create fun Christmas characters for the movie.Personally from my favorite scene was the snowman scene, which you can see in trailers. This is the first action scene where the villain, Gryla,  is trying to take out Callum and Jack as well as a witness, so she sends some snowmen to fight them. I liked how unexpected it was, you wouldn’t have a snowman to fight, but they lasted pretty long and made for a good fight scene.

Acting 

In terms of acting, there were many familiar faces that made this movie more interesting. 

Actors like Kiernan Shipka played a very nice role as the villain Gryla, and I also loved seeing a female villain in a film. I liked how she was actually scary using different voices and expressions to seem scary. 

I liked the fact that many of the actors are very talented, including Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, who had a nice chemistry because they have very similar acting and comical personalities.

For example, in the scene where they needed to escape from Krampus, Santa’s evil brother, Jack comes up with an idea where he signs Callum up for a lap Game” where the two people slap each other until one person gets knocked down or dies. Callum goes up against him, but after two hard hits Jack gets a hold of Callum’s magic arm weapon that gives him enough strength to hit Krampus hard enough he falls, giving them a way to escape. It’s a nice start to their developing friendship in the film.        

 Comedy/Action

Though the comedy was pretty limited there were little jokes here and there but I think the light action was fun and not too intense. One of my favorite action scenes was around 40 minutes in, where Callum and his team realize Santa was kidnapped and they try everything but it’s too late. It was really action packed, without needing too much gore. It was lighthearted but still exciting.

Overall the film was a nice family holiday movie. It wasn’t stretched out, it had a lot of talented actors and a nice ending. The only thing is that it had a predictable plot. 

I would recommend watching “Red One” with friends or family, and I would give it a solid 7.5 out of 10.
