With the recent uprise in listeners and fans this year, Reno rap artist Lou Deezi released his third album called ¨Scary Movies¨ on Friday, December 13, 2024. Being Lou Deezi´s third overall album and second album this year, will this album live up to the hype?
Lou Deezi is a 19-year-old up and coming rapper from Reno, Nevada. As of now, not much is known about Deezi, not even his real name, but we do know that he started making music in early 2022. The first song he ever released was a song called ¨18 MPH¨, a slow paced mellow rap song that sounds a little bit like some Bay Area rappers. Deezi´s songs were getting traction from 2022. It was in late 2023 and early 2024 when Deezi really took off. At the time of writing, he has 120k followers on Instagram and 608k listeners on Spotify.
His 2022 singles ¨Baby¨ and ¨WhenSheGone¨ really went viral on social media with over thousands of people using his songs to lip sync to, calling it ¨Song of the day¨. The songs tell stories about girls, lifestyle, and how he shows off. Since most of it was storytelling rap, many people acted out scenarios of the songs. I personally liked his singles because the tone he was using felt urgent and the beats and production matched each song. The first track had a charming, romantic feel, but the second track talked about the aftermath. I was looking forward to his next album to see what he would do next.
After all that the hype went down a little bit, Deezi started doing concerts and the hype went straight back up. He released snippets of songs, collabs, and much more through his latest comeback. Before the album was released, Deezi released a song called ¨Stick Up Kid¨ which would go on to be the second song on the album. This single was similar to the previous songs, but it dives more into rap. I noticed it was slightly different, but I didn’t think much of it, because new artists venture out.
Lou Deezi dropped “Scary Movies” on Friday the 13th and even though the name and release date are based around horror, there aren’t really any horror aspects to the album. This album has nine tracks, is 24 minutes long and has four features. The album has been teased on social media since early October, with everything that Deezi posted containing the hashtag #ScaryMovies.
“Scary Movies” is a rap album. All nine songs on the album sound the same but they lack the storytelling aspect that I was a fan.. For example, ¨Mirror¨ the sixth song on the album has an old school hip hop vibe to it. The background of the song has a kind of shimmer-twinkle sound in the back that sounds like some of the old school Bay Area music from the 90s. On the other hand ¨1983¨ has more of a mid 2010s sound to it with slight sounds of lasers in the background and heavy hi-hats throughout the whole song.

Lou Deezi’s song 1983, from the album “Scary Movies”. This song is good because his voice complements the beats and lyrics well.
I’d say the best songs on the album are ¨Both Ways¨ and ¨Stick Up Kid¨. ¨Stick Up Kid¨ has a lot of the qualities to be an amazing song, like the beat and their voices meshing together, the beat complementing Deezi’s voice, and just the overall vibe of the song. Even with all of those qualities of the song, I feel like the featured artist Lil Bean´s voice just doesn’t go with the song. I didn’t enjoy the overuse of autotune, the way his tone was, and the lyrics. Maybe it’s because Deezi was heard first in the song, but it feels like Bean being on the song just doesn’t fit. The way Deezi sounded and the way Bean sounded were just completely opposite and the lyricism was also not very similar.
“Stick Up Kid” on the other hand is more similar to Deezi more popular songs like ¨WhenShegone¨ and ¨That’s That¨, it’s a storytelling type song. Whenever Deezi does a storytelling song there’s no doubt that it’ll be good, it’s kind of like his specialty. I dont think it’s his best storytelling song but it is really good. The way he explains the scenarios in the song gives the people that listen a vivid image of what is happening.
