WILD FIRE NEAR CAMPUS

A grass fire broke out by Stagg High School behind the levi at 9:53 a.m. Three firefighters arrived around 10a.m. in one fire truck, Stockton Firefighters Captain Jerome Martinez, Travis Silvia, and Engineer Greg Domingo. The fire was out in less than an hour. The damage was about a quarter acre, it had slowed down in the green grass.

“This happens every year,”Janitor Martin Desantiago said. “Because homeless people sleep in between the river.”

“It could have been a contained warming fire,” Martinez said. “it doesn’t take much to start a fire, especially with the wind.”

There was a strong smell of burnt grass, with a hint of barbeque scent. The firefighters said the fire was unlikely to reach Stagg High School.
