This year’s king and queen have been named, Adalina Pineda and Sebastian Ramirez.
Pineda and Ramirez entered high school as a couple, have been together for three and a half years and started dating towards the end of eighth grade. Pineda believes this will help strengthen their relationship “We have achieved one of our goals” stated Pineda.
The couple had been looking forward to this particular moment since they first entered high school. Ramirez agrees with Pineda , also thinking that this will help strengthen their relationship. “I feel like we are a power couple that can get through any challenge that comes our way.”
To celebrate the end of the football season, each school has a homecoming game which is the last game. Their football home season ended early due to their school turf being re-done. At these games, they crown a homecoming king and queen and are passed the titles by the formerly crowned homecoming royalty from the year before Jameelah Pharms and Luis Nolasco.
Ramirez expressed his confidence in the running of homecoming king saying, “I have a lot of friends that support me and want to see me win”. Pineda on the other hand was less confident, “there was a lot of competition.”
Their source of promotion was mainly Instagram where they made a series of posts which consisted of many different designs to support and encourage people to vote for them. Pineda even decorated her car as a source of campaign for the running.
As a tradition the homecoming court rides into the game sitting on cars. To Ramirez everything felt surreal, “I had to take everything in little by little” he said about the overwhelming experience. To Pineda the ride in was also nerve wracking as it was the final moment before finding out who won the week long campaign.
The winners were decided by a Google form that listed each person running for the crowns. The votes were tallied and Pineda and Ramirez were revealed on top as the new king and queen. Pineda felt very honored to be crowned homecoming queen, this allowed her to become a Stagg Alumni and she will be able to return next year to see her underclassman friends. “It’s such a special moment I would never trade for,” exclaimed Pineda.
Family was a huge part of both Ramirez and Pineda’s win experience. “My family was very proud of me for winning homecoming king,” Ramirez said. Once the family who wasn’t able to attend heard about the news they reacted by blowing up his phone with excitement. Pineda expressed how much hard work her family does, and how hard it was for them to be able to attend and support them. “It was a blessing to have them there,” said Pineda.
Pineda encourages people who would like to run for things like homecoming to “just do it.” The four years of highschool are a staple and stepping stone into adulthood, “make the most memories that you can, if you get the chance, do it!” stated Pineda.
