The Peace Corps is an organization of volunteers who serve the United States in nearly 77 different countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East. The volunteers live, learn, and work with a community overseas for 27 months, providing technical assistance in six program areas:

• Education
• youth and community development
• health
• business and information and communications technology
• agriculture
• environment

Volunteers work with the governments, schools, and entrepreneurs to address changing and complex needs in education, health and HIV/AIDS, business, information technology, agriculture, and the environment. Only 40 percent of Volunteers are involved in some capacity to support food security through projects in health and nutrition, agriculture, and the environment. Depending on the area of expertise, many volunteers will contribute to HIV/AIDS initiatives during their service.If you want to sign up you must be 18 years of age and a citizen of the United States.The Benefits you get if you join the Peace Corps are student loans, transition funds: receive $7,425 (pre-tax after you complete your 27 months of service). Your expenses for travel to and from your country of service are paid for, a living allowance (monthly salary) to cover living and housing expenses. You also earn two vacation days per month of service, and receive complete medical and dental care while serving. An affordable health insurance plan is available for up to 18 months following service. Unlike other international volunteer programs, there is no fee to participate in the Peace Corps
