The Health Careers Academy here at Stagg is the best throughout Stockton Unified. This program has been on this campus for years before Ms. Edmond ever came around. Ms. Edmond began the school year of 2002 making a huge difference in the way things were before. She doesn’t teach just Health Careers Academy 1 and 2, she also teaches Pharmacy Tech.
Before Ms. Edmond started running this program it was falling apart. “The hardest thing for me was rebuilding this program,” she said. She has improved this program so much. “When I got here in this room there were no computers, no pictures, and basically nothing to do with the Health Careers Academy or Pharmacy, so if you ask me I believe I came a long way.” Ms. Edmond feels ecstatic about having all this accomplished. “Sometimes I feel more than an average teacher at a teaching job!” she states.
Kayla Nelson, junior, has Ms. Edmond in Pharmacy Tech and Health Careers 1. “I think this program is great, I feel like it helps prepare you for college and it also feels like I’m actually taking a college class with all the work,” she chuckles. Kanisha Tutwiler, senior, has Health Careers 1. Kanisha states “this is my most challenging class this year, but I feel like when the school year is over I will have a lot to look back on from this class because of Ms. Edmond.”
This program isn’t like any other program. This program actually earns you 12 credits that transfers over to Delta College and 24 credits to Heald College once you finish the program. It also offers you to get your licenses as a MA (Medical Assistant) when you graduate if you pass the National Health Careers Association Test at the end of the second semester which is $105.
