On Friday October 22nd a representative from the University of Pacific came to Stagg to give a presentation on how to make a resume. A resume is a necessity in the job field, and shows what education and/or work experience you have. Even if you don’t have any education or experience, you can do volunteer work and put that on your resume. Without a resume, you can’t get very far. You might be able to get a part time job by filling out some applications, but most (if not all) will be rejected. For those of you who didn’t see the presentation, below is a step by step guide to making a resume.
1.) At the top center of the page, you put your contact information (your name, phone number, email address).
2.) On the first line is the objective (what job your trying to get) and where.
3.) On the next line you put what education you have (where and when you got your diploma) and your G.P.A. if it’s 3.0 or higher.
4.) On the third line is the experience starting with the most recent or important thing you did. This list would include part time work, community service (I suggest doing some if you have no experience), volunteer work, leadership, co-curricular classes (like foreign languages, art classes, or even helping the school web site), any sports you’ve played in school, and any other thing you did or achieved that you think should be included.
5.) Any skills that you have. If you can cook you could write that you can cook.
6.) And on a separate page (or on the same if your resume is small enough) you MUST put some references and their contact information. This is a key part to have on your resume.
Now you have the steps to make a resume, you can send a copy to the jobs you want to apply for, and the employer will look at it for about 10 seconds. Then move on to the other resumes. If yours is the best, you’ll (probably) get the job.
