Have you heard of the new Aleks program? According to counselor Mr. Sam, “the Aleks program is a new way to help juniors and seniors who failed either algebra or geometry to pass.” He also said, “the best part about it is that it’s online so students can work on it at home, at the library or after school for a little while.” This is very convenient because most students usually don’t finish their work by the end of class period.
The head of the math department Mr. Walters stated, “Aleks allows students to work at their own pace instead of struggling to keep up with the rest of the class and it’s really good because their grade is based on how much progress a student makes rather than benchmarks and capstones.”
This might be especially beneficial because most students believe that benchmarks and capstones make it much harder to pass their math class, and they hate the whole idea. At the beginning of the program students must complete a diagnostics test to see what the students know and what they need the most help in. This means that during the program students will be actually learning specifically what they need to learn, rather than going over material they’ve already learned.
