There are so many options for seniors after high school, from college to trade school, to joining the military or even the workforce, it might feel overwhelming at first.
Diego Cuevas is a senior who wasn’t sure at first what he wanted to do. But after attending a college conference in the Spot, Cuevas feels a lot more confident about one option. “I wanna go to Delta because there’s a lot of career options.” He wants to be an electrician and thinks Delta has the right programs for him to do that.
Last Tuesday, Delta College recruiter Michael Ferroni spoke with over 60 Stagg students at the Spot about why they should go to Delta after high school. His main argument was the economic advantage of going to college.
“Within California, you are likely to make twice as much money as someone who has a college degree against someone who only has a high school diploma.”
Ferroni spoke about the different options offered at Delta, with at least 8 pathways: Agriculture, Arts, Humanities and Multimedia, Business Law, Communications/Language, Health/Fitness, Science, Education/Public Services, and Technical/Trade. The presenter explained each pathway as well as showing a short video for each pathway.
College freshmen on any pathway are entitled to two free years of paid tuition, which is enough time to gain an Associate’s Degree, the highest degree Delta College can bestow. Felloni also spoke about flexible schedules with morning and night classes, in-person or distance learning classes, or even hybrid combinations of the two.
“College life is so much more than just paying your tuition,” remarks Ferroni. Delta has a diverse amount of programs to support students whether it is food, childcare for students with children, laundry, healthcare, jobs, mental health assistance, and undocumented student aid.
Traci Hanson has been a Stagg Counselor for sophomores for the last 3 years. In her opinion, Delta is an easy choice to make. “Delta is FREE to most of our students and is the most affordable option for many students,” says Hanson. She also claims Delta is a perfect place to gain higher education and expresses how valuable the CTE certificate programs are.
“I encourage students to talk to as many people as possible to learn more about opportunities that they didn’t even knew existed.”
If you are interested in attending Delta, all you need to do is fill out your FAFSA and the California Dream Act and graduate with a C average in your senior year. Links to those applications are found below.
At the end of his presentation, Ferroni left audience members with this message: “Delta is affordable and it’s a great school and an opportunity for students from all walks of life to improve themselves and their career opportunities.”
At first, Cuevas wasn’t dead set on going to Delta but after the presentation, he’s confident in his choice of college. “I might not have attended Delta, but [the presentation] brought light to me and I wanna go now.”
Ferroni will be back at Stagg to attend the FAFSA workshop on December 1 to assist with any questions, and the applications are available year-round.
