Paramount Pictures has released a trailer for “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” on Aug 27, 2024 after the movie was first teased in April.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” will feature the characters of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman returning from the first two films, along with the inclusion of Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by Keanu Reeves, Maria Robotnik (Alyla Brown), and Gerald Robotnik (who plays a dual role as Eggman).
Not much of the movie has been shown until now, however the movie will most likely be a reimagining of the story of “Sonic Adventure 2”, first released on the Sega Dreamcast in 2001.
In the trailer, Shadow is shown to be extremely strong, able to take on the trio of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles by himself. The scene is set in Tokyo, and we get to see Shadow using a teleporting ability to attack the heroes. This ability looks similar to Chaos Snap from “Sonic the Hedgehog” from 2006 and the upcoming “Sonic X Shadow Generations”.
This may be surprising to fans of the game, because he uses this power even though he doesn’t appear to have any Chaos Emeralds, which are usually needed for techniques such as Chaos Control. It’s possible the movie will change some of Shadow’s powers, because he appears to cause an EMP at one point, similar to what Sonic does in the first movie.
The trailer also features the appearance of Agent Stone and Dr. Eggman, whose appearance is closer to his video game portrayal than the second movie, as they team up with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles to stop Shadow in exchange for one of Sonic’s quills,
Gerald Robotnik, also played by Jim Carrey, shows up at the end of the trailer, whose role in the story is still unknown, but if he is anything like his video game counterpart, he might be a major part of the story.
Maria is also seen in a flashback with Shadow, which shows her interacting with Shadow, who is contained in a glass prison. The other shot that Maria is in could be a spoiler for Shadow’s backstory.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is in theaters December 20th.
