People gathered at Taft Park on Sept. 3, to watch cultural dances and buy corn products like tortillas in celebration of the Maize Criollo festival.
The festival celebrates maize, which is one of the many ingredients that are used to make tortillas. Another purpose is to create awareness against synthetic maize, which can be unhealthy for the human body.
There were also cultural Aztec and Afro-Mexican dances, because maize is a crop that ancient Aztec farmers planted for generations. It’s been something that has been a part of their beliefs and culture throughout time.
Mayor Kevin Lincoln and Vice Mayor Kimberly Warmsley attended the event.
