JASMINE JENNINGS: Breaks record with homerun

Holding the bat steadily, adjusting her body to the perfect position, feeling the sun shine on her forehead, the moment is silent when sophomore Jasmine Marie Jennings focuses on hitting the softball to the hardest of her ability.

The numerous hours of practice and games finally paid off when Jennings hit the softball over the fence. Homerun.

“It was our last game against Chavez,” Jennings said. It was the seventh inning and Jennings was the first freshman to bat.

“I was really nervous even if it was our last game,” she said. Jennings explains that her only purpose that day was to hit the softball and make it over the fence.

“I wanted to end the season in a good way.”

She admits to feeling pure bliss for herself and teammates, but she had no clue that she has broken a record and was informed the following day by physical education teacher Rosslyn Halekakis.

“I was surprised and I didn’t think it was that big of a deal,” she said.
Jennings explains that she achieved this by practicing and preparing herself orally before a game.

“If you throw your heart over the fence the ball will go with it,” Jennings said. She anticipates this year’s season and hopes she’ll break another record.
