Electronics in School?

Now and days, most people are always constantly using their phones, mp3 players, the computer, or are just doing something that has to do with electronics.

At Stagg High School, it’s not as often that you see someone doing one of these things. The reason most people don’t see this at this school is because it’s not allowed here.

Although it’s good that many students aren’t always constantly doing these things, don’t we kind of need to have electronics at some point? What would happen if one day you’re having a family emergency and your parents can’t contact you? What would happen if you just can’t concentrate to the point where you can’t get any work done? Wouldn’t we need electronics?

A lot of people say that we use technology too much, but if it wasn’t for technology, no one would know what’s going around the world. We all know that electronics and electronic devices are and can become very addicting. Living in the time where cell phones can have satellite radio, TV, Internet, and can play music, is just going to make the device more addicting. More people are buying them because they can do so much.

Cell phones are becoming a smaller version of a computer; some phones can even have Windows format that computers use. Some phones are even able to allow you to have word documents that you can send to your computers. Cell phones are becoming more and more advanced, likewise with other electronic devices.

Being able to do so many things, should cell phones be allowed in school? If cell phones were allowed in school, everyone for sure would see phones a whole lot more than having to constantly hide them.

Cell phones are a distracting device, but what’s the big deal with not being able to use them during passing period and/or lunch? Kids know phones aren’t allowed at school, but we still bring them and take the risk of getting them taken away. If we would just be able to use them at passing period or lunch, many kids would feel good about it.

New students don’t always make friends right away and not being able to talk to someone when you’re alone can be boring and make them feel like an outcast. A lot of schools do allow students to bring their phones to school. Other schools only allow them during passing period and at lunch. So why not Stagg?

In some schools, some teachers may even allow the students to use them in class. What’s the real reason that kids need their phones though? Parents usually buy their children phones to stay in contact with them at any of the time of the day and know where they are.

Most parents have their kids take their phones to school because they know that anything can happen, but what would happen if there was a family emergency and you needed to know but no one could tell you or contact you because you can’t bring your phone to school? What if you didn’t live near the school and whoever picks you up is unable to pick you up, how would you be able to get a ride or how would you be able to find a ride if you can’t bring your phone to school? What would happen if you’re having a problem with a student[s] and the problem begins to get worse, what if no one is around? How will you let anyone know that something is going on? What happens at moments like these? Nothing, you can’t have phones at school. In times like these, should cell phones be allowed in school?

Students already know the consequences of bringing their electronics to school, we know they can get taken away or stolen. We know that we shouldn’t bring them to school, but we still take the risk.

A lot of kids are responisble enough to know not to bring and use them at school. Even though we know we can’t have them in class why can’t we use them while we’re not in class? What’s the big deal? A lot of students like to use their phones or mp3 players to listen to music in class. Many people will say that it helps them to concentrate and block out the distractions around them.

Why can’t we bring our mp3 players to school? Almost everyday someone will see another person with earphones in their ears. It is very rare when someone doesn’t. Everyone listens to music at some point. It’s not just the younger group of people but its older people too.

There is all types of ways for people to be able to listen to music, the radio, computer, and even TV. A lot of people like to listen to music while they are working, cleaning, driving, etc. Listening to music can help people concentrate and help them take their minds off things around them that are going on and only focus on what they’re doing.

Many people have short attention spans and can be easily distracted. During work or school, when so many things are going on, it’s easy to get distracted. For some people, they can be easily distracted when someone says something to them or something is going on around them.

In other schools, some teachers do allow their students to listen to their mp3’s to concentrate on their work; some teachers even play the radio or music they’ve brought from their home.

Students and teachers at Stagg don’t do these things because they aren’t allowed to. Yes, this is a privilege and it should be given a chance before just saying “No its not allowed.” Students and teachers should be given a chance, but once they ruin their chances, then should be the time where teachers say “No.” Should Stagg students be able to bring their mp3 players to school?

If Stagg High School decided to allow students to bring their cell phones and/or mp3 players, they would feel like they have more freedom and don’t need to hide everything that they do. It would give students a lot more freedom, but yes, it can be taken away at any point.

Even if these things were only allowed at passing period and lunch, or one or the other, it’s better then nothing. Even though “we use to much technology,” we all need it at some point. So should students be able to bring their electronics to school?
